Looking Back on the Project !

 Throughout the project, I've had MANY ups and downs, but at last, the final product came together. From crying and panicking over the accidental deletion of my project, to learning and mastering new editing techniques, I'm able to look back on the process, and analyze my mistakes and small victories. 

Editing Do's and DON'T (yea...I learned my lesson)

    The most important lesson I learned from this entire project is to PURCHASE A FLASHDRIVE!!!!!! I realized how disorganized I was in managing the clips I had, and storing them on my computer. As I was  working on Adobe Premiere, I had run out of storage, and decided that it would be a smart idea to clean out my folders, which included ALL OF MY CLIPS. Eventually, I did lose half my project, and yea, it was traumatizing. Although, I was fortunate enought to have B-roll footage, which I was able to incorporate into the opening. 

Time Management + Script Changes

    Despite the post-production fiasco, I also learned that I should have considered the pacing of the story before writing the script. I had all these ideas surrounding the build-up and development of Val and Valarie's relationship that I forgot about the amount of time I was given to complete the opening. With the two minute time limit, I was unable to incorporate the many heartwarming and comedic conversations Val and Valarie were going to have, including the bribery scene. However, these changes to the script and plot did allow me to consider telling my story visually, rather than relying on the dialogue only. Additionally, changing the script also meant significant changes to my original post-production plans, which included leaving color on Val and the bandana during the black and white scene, as it not only impacted my plot visually, but it completed my original intent of leaving wonder and interpretive freedom to the audience. 

Character Changes + Impacting the Plot

    Along with the script, the original concepts for Val and Valarie shifted as well, since Val was not supposed to be her best friend, rather an imaginary figmentation of her conscience, displaying who she wanted to be as she hid that part of herself from others. The reason for this drastic shift in character was for the simple reason that I was afraid Valarie's character wouldn't be clearly introduced. I felt that it would be difficult to clarify that Val was not real, despite the fact that I could have incorporated the "leave color" concept I applied in the final opening. Instead, I fell back on my dream idea and decided to make it a safe space for Valarie's thoughts, as well as display her coping mechanism towards the grieving of her friend.
