Filming Day 2 + Editing Updates!

Hey! Today I filmed Scene 2, the end of Scene 5, and Scene 6, but was unable to get to Scene 4 :( But that's totally fine because I was able to get the majority of what I set out to accomplish filmed, and I'm pleased with today's productivity. With that being said, here are some of the highlights of today's filming sesh...

Battery Update + Positives

My battery of my camera actually lasted! See, I told you I would learn from yesterday, and because I thankfully did, this led to me being able to film most of what I wanted at Town Center.

Along with resolving the battery issue, I was lucky enough to film on a day with awesome weather conditions, and at a time where the location wasn't packed with people.

Minor Negatives + Editing Updates

While the weather was great, the area that we filmed in had many additional and disruptive sounds, such as the water fountain and the bell tower that would chime every hour, which would take away time that I would have to film since I had to wait till the song was over. Additionally, there were moments where gusts of wind would come through, which hindered many shots I would take, especially moments where Emma and Liv's characters were walking and talking to each other. At times, I would play back the footage and find that it was difficult to hear them, so I had to find alternative ways to shoot the scene. Originally, I planned on using a wide shot of Emma and Liv's characters walking, but once I filmed this, I realized how hard it was to hear them, and even if I used audio from other takes where the audio was better, it wouldn't sync up correctly on Premiere, so I decided to shoot this scene using a variety of close-up shots and medium shots in order to capture their lines.

The video above is a blooper, but I wanted to provide an example of the wide shot I originally was trying to strive for. In this particular shot, it is not only difficult to hear their voices, but the fountain in the background is loud, thus throwing off this shot completely. Even if I used the "De-Noise" effect on Premiere, their voices would still be too soft.

Instead of the wide shot, here is one of the few medium/close-up shots I decided to use as an alternative. While background noise can still be heard, the "De-Noise" effect cooperated more with this shot than with the original.

While filming the end of Scene 5 and Scene 6 went smoothly, I did run into issues with lighting while filming Scene 6. In certain close-ups of Eve, I noticed that the lighting was a little too dark, but fortunetly, this is an easy fix. I'm planning on raising the exposure on Premiere, which I'm hoping will do the trick.

The lighting in this close-up shot of Emma is too dark, so I am hoping to fix this by using Premiere. I guess the darkness could work for the context of the scene, but it's hard to see her face, so I'm still going to edit it anyway.

As for editing, I have only put together most of Scene 2, but throughout next week, I plan on finishing the "rough draft" of the short film, meaning I hope to have the scenes cut and complete so that I can start adding color, music, text, etc.

This is what I have of Scene 2 thus far! I'm almost done putting it together, but I haven't delved into music, color, lighting, text, etc (this goes for the other scenes I have edited as well).

Filming Day 3?

Yup! Sunday night, I plan on filming Scene 4 with Emma, Katie and Alex, which means after Sunday, I will have the entire short film shot! Yay! Even though I wasn't able to follow my original two day plan, I found that this minor set back hasn't hindered the time I have to edit and complete the short film, hence why I have been trying to stay on top of editing the short film early.

Bloopers :)

Just like day 1, here are some fun bloopers I was able to capture during today's filming process!
